The Biodiversity Catalog is now the main species database of Biosphere. It launches with 27 records: 17 animals and 10 plants, from the axolotl of Mexico City’s canals to the dragon’s blood tree of Socotra.

What you can do

  • Search by common or scientific name, habitat, region or conservation status.
  • Filter by animal or plant type, habitat, IUCN Red List category and continent.
  • Sort by conservation status, most discovered or most popular.
  • Open any record to read the full species profile.

Each species photo comes from Wikimedia Commons under an open license, credited to its photographer. Know a species that should be in the catalog? Suggest it — every suggestion is reviewed before anything is added.
