Adaptation
Definition: An inherited characteristic that helps an organism survive and reproduce in its environment — or the evolutionary process that produces such characteristics.
In simple words: A feature that helps a living thing survive where it lives.
More about adaptation
Adaptations can be physical, such as the thick fur and fat of the polar bear, or behavioural, such as migration. Plants adapt too: the Venus flytrap traps insects to get nutrients that are scarce in its boggy soil.
